The parapet wall presents its own problems of weathering between the wall and the roof abutment. There are no structural problems as far as the timber roof structure is concerned, the last common rafter or trussed rafter simply being placed close to the inner skin of the gable end wall. The trussed rafter in particular should not be xed to the wall, thus allowing natural de ection to occur in the trussed rafter roof independent of the brickwork. The weathering between wall and roof is generally achieved by means of lead soakers placed between the tiles and turned up the face of the abutting wall, these being covered by stepped lead ashings tted into the brick courses. The detail at the abutment will be in uenced by the shape and style of tile used for the main roof. Figure 8.14 shows a stepped lead cover ashing frequently used with heavily rolled tiles and pantiles. An alternative and particularly neat detail with the atter type of tile is to use a very small secret gutter between the roof tiles and the parapet wall. The tiles are simply stopped some 25 38 mm short of the parapet wall, with a continuous length of lead dressed underneath the tiles with a welt or water check, down on to a small supporting batten between the last rafter and the wall, and then up the face of the wall to a height approximately matching that of the tiles themselves. Dressed over the top of that is the stepped apron ashing in the normal manner.

Remote connections provide the same functions as described in the previous section, except they can be accessed remotely by calling the COCOT. Remote connections are usually reserved for authorized users (the company in charge of maintaining the proper operation of the COCOT). Thus, the COCOT can be diagnosed remotely, even before a person is sent down to repair it. A typical COCOT will pick up in remote mode after someone calls it and lets it ring for a while (between 4 and 10 rings usually). At that time it will communicate with the remote site using whatever method it was designed to use. This is usually a 300 baud mode, or a DTMF/synthesized voice connection. An access code is usually required, which may be a 3- or 4-digit number in the DTMF connection, or anything for a password in the modem connection. Some DTMF based COCOTs are simply activated with a single silver box tone (see Winter 1989-90 issue of 2600). I ve run into a couple of these. To play around with the remote functions of a COCOT, if they exist in the particular model, it is necessary to obtain the phone number of the unit. See the next section on that. Once you have the number, simply call it and experiment from then on. If you have trouble hacking the formats for the remote mode, it may be necessary to call the makers of the COCOT and social engineer them for the information.

The share of the postacquisition reserves will be credited to the retained earnings of the group. Goodwill in an associate is not separately recognized. The entire carrying amount is tested for impairment. In the consolidated income statement, income from associates for the year is reported after profit from operations, just before profit before tax. Case Study 3 Facts Company A sells inventory to its 30% owned associate, B. The inventory had cost A $200,000 and was sold for $300,000. B also has sold inventory to A. The cost of this inventory to B was $100,000, and it was sold for $120,000. Required How would the intercompany profit on these transactions be dealt with in the financial statements if none of the inventory had been sold at year-end Solution Company A to Company B

The Merriam Webster de nes ad hoc to mean: concerned with a particular end or purpose or fashioned from whatever is immediately available [2] This de nition is apropos, for ad hoc networks are formed with a purpose in mind and have no infrastructure, thus permitting unplanned, spontaneous connectivity to be implemented However, arguably, singular purposes may not exist if one compares individual nodes of an ad hoc network belonging to a single authority (eg, an emergency rescue team), with the individual nodes belonging to a commercial mainstream scenario, where individuals may differ in cooperation and intention [3] While a lengthy discussion of such concerns is beyond the scope of this paper, this issue is often overlooked due to our optimistic assumptions regarding users Nevertheless, it is highly germane to routing where unrelated users will be required to utilize scarce resources to forward packets to more distant nodes.

The second level of grouping needs to divide the set of items up both by type and by month. Here, you need a combined key, one in which the key value is dependent on multiple properties of the node. You can create a combined key by concatenating the values of the two properties, using a delimiter that cannot occur in the first property to separate them:

In [3], the authors present an insightful discussion relating to incentives for MANETs The beginnings of ad-hoc networking can be traced back to 1968 [4, 5], where the ALOHA random access scheme, developed at the University of Hawaii for packet radio networks, provided a foundation for distributed channel-access schemes Further development ensued and in 1973 the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) developed one of the rst ad hoc wireless networks, called the PRNET, a ground mobile packet radio network It was a multihop network that allowed up to 138 nodes and used IP packets for data transport In 1990, the committee for IEEE 802 standards formed a working group for wireless LAN (WLAN) standards The development of the standard was completed in 7 years, and in June 1997, the rst speci cation of the IEEE 802.
